The eyes of an abused and neglected child are blank and emotionless. They show little or no signs of joy or emotion. Abused children tend to not establish eye contact. They look past your or at the floor.
If you suspect child abuse/neglect, or you think something is ‘just not right’ (but can’t put your finger on it), call your local child abuse hotline or 911.
- Keep a paper trail of your calls, documenting dates, time, contact name and case number.
- If no action is taken, call again and again. Do not give up!
- You do NOT need to prove child abuse is happening—you only have to suspect it is taking place.
- If you see something, say something.
